With the help of Pacific Seeds, residents across Thailand are transforming their unused land into field plots to feed their community. Starting in their own backyard, the Thai team met with the Deputy District Chief and The Community Development Specialist to donate seeds to residents, farmers, and housewives in Phraphutthabat district. The field allocated for the first trial planting of the baby corn seeds trial planting is located in the district office’s backyard.
Home and urban gardening is flourishing around the world since the onset of COVID-19. Widespread lockdowns are pushing residents to grow their own fruit and vegetables from their homes.
Residents and housewives in the Phraphutthabat district of Thailand are beginning growing pesticide-free, PAC 271 hybrid baby corn for their local community.
THX. Pairoh is the village headman and woman group leader for 200 people, most of whom are farmers and merchants, in the Huay Pa-Wai Sub-district group. Ms.Pairoh has personally donated 1,200 square meters of land for the community to use as a model for planting baby corn in the village. In the Nongkae Sub-district, Ms.Sermsri has donated 800 square meters of her own land as a planting model for a baby corn. If these projects meet their objectives, other members in the woman’s group will be growing baby corn on their own land. The baby corn and vegetables grown on this land will be shared amongst the community.
